The Loy Yang B Power Station is one of Australia’s largest and most modern coal-fired power plants, with a capacity of approximately 1,100 MW.
Commissioned in 1993, Loy Yang B power station features advanced technology for improved efficiency and reduced emissions compared to older power plants. It plays a key role in Victoria’s energy generation while facing increasing focus on transitioning to renewable energy.
Client Brief
The two cooling towers exhibit large areas of concrete spalling and delaminations. A trial on approximately 100m2 across both towers was designed to compare seven different methods of electrochemical protection, with the best performing method to be later scaled up across the rest of the damaged area.
